Before being diagnosed with TMJ, (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) many people think they are experiencing migraines, sinus infections, or ear infections. However, many of the same symptoms that you experience with migraines or sinus infections are actually signs on TMJ - and can be a very painful!
What is TMJ?
TMJ describes a condition that involves the jaw joints, the muscles that control jaw movement and the dental occlusion.
Your jaw and skull are very delicate, as are the muscles and nervous system in your head and neck. TMJ is typically caused by an imbalance in these systems. This imbalance results in muscle fatigue, joint dysfunction, and even changes in one’s oral health.
Symptoms can include headaches, dental pain, pain in the jaw joints or on jaw movement, ear pain, tinnitus, ear pressure, neck, back, shoulder and even chest pain.
