The Benefits of Massage During Pregnancy
Wednesday, August 11, 2010
Researchers from the University of Miami's Medical School examined the influence of massage on both pregnant women and their babies. The women were given twice-weekly massages for 12 weeks during and after their pregnancy. Women who received massage reported decreased anxiety and reduced depression throughout the therapy. Massage also increased the participants' level of serotonin, a natural antidepressant. The full report was published in the April 2010 issue of Infant Behavior and Development (pages 115-124)
