Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple Sclerosis is a demyelinating condition of the central nervous system (Brain and Spinal cord). This results in a loss of coating on our nerves that allows them to carry information quickly to the brain and back. This causes a decrease in the speed of nerve transmission which causes many of the symptoms seen here. The nervous system is similar to phone lines, which also need their black protective coating to increase the speed of their inner wiring. What are some symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis?
- Painful eye movements
- Visual changes
- Double vision
- Lack of coordination, unsteadiness
- Dropping things, falling/off balance
- More common in young to middle aged women
- Symptoms that seem to come and go
How do we treat this?
- Since myelin is made in response to activation of nerves, we will be doing neurological rehabilitation to increase the activation of these nerves that have been affected. More activation results in more myelin, which will create healthier nerves.
- Secondary changes in the brain can occur due to a lack of activation from slower, demyelinated nerves, worsening the condition and allowing it to progress faster than normal. We can limit this progression by rehabilitating the affected areas of the brain, maintaining their health. This will help the body stop the demyelinating process by allowing the master system of our body, the brain, to function properly.
- Nutrition will be extremely important in this scenario. Myelin is made from Essential Fatty Acids, or Omega 3`s. Supplementation will be extremely important, as well as B-vitamins that are important in the process of myelinating the nerves.

Chiropractic and Neurological care are extremely important for stimulation of the nervous system to create healthy myelin coating for our nerves. This will reduce the symptoms of M.S. and its future occurrences.
