How Chiropractic Neurology Affects the Brain
Receptors are the eyes and ears of our brain. They are the starting point of our nervous system. The brain uses receptors to understand and interpret our environment. They also provide a source of energy for our neurons, individual brain cells, allowing them to become healthier by increasing their DNA activation. The increase in DNA allows each cell to produce all the cellular content it needs to be healthy. It also increases the connections between nerves, similar to a spider web in the brain. The more nerve connections you have, the better your brain functions. This results in a faster thought process, improvement in memory and personality, decrease in stress and an improvement in overall body function.
Movement is life. This is how our brain and nerves maintain their health, through exercise and joint motion. Proper spinal motion is the most important input to our brain, resulting in more DNA production when our spine is healthy. What happens if we have spinal misalignments? The joints and muscles around them no longer move properly and decrease input to the brain, causing it to suffer and a decrease in DNA production, which eventually leads to brain cell death. The largest amount of joint mechanoreceptor input to our brains comes from the spine at the C4-C6 levels, (please visit the ChiroMatrix for viewing your spine) which is the apex of our cervical curve, located in the middle to lower portion of the neck. This is one of the many reasons why it is important to maintain proper posture and alignment of the spine. If any of these areas are misaligned the health of our brain will suffer greatly. Why do we feel so much better after exercise? We have activated receptors and provided a large amount of input to the brain. We now have less stress and can think clearly with lowering blood pressure. This is the same result that is found with a chiropractic adjustment, brain activation resulting in decreased stress, lower blood pressure and an increase of over-all brain function.
We also need to consider the fuel for our brain which is obtained through proper oxygenation and proper nutrition. In order to ensure proper oxygenation we need to have proper rib mechanics, which is achieved through highly specific adjustments to the rib cage that allow the lungs to expand properly and exchange oxygen for CO2. Elevated CO2 levels are detrimental to our bodies and increase the overall acidity, which causes an increased cortisol production (our body's stress hormone).
